Default So my crossovers just exploded

Polk MM651's, SS PN4.520D amp. I was getting some distortion coming out of the left front speaker when riding, so I decided to take the faring off and check levels. Just as soon as I get the meter on the output terminals and get a reading (25.3v ac), the left crossover literally explodes, followed closely by the right crossover. I didn't pinch wires anywhere, and I didn't arc a speaker terminal to batt+, ground, or another speaker output terminal. I did however have the throttle lock on just enough to hold the bike's voltmeter at 14v to simulate going down the road (with the theory that maybe that had something to do with the distortion I was getting).

WTF just happened?

I'm getting my girlfriend's brother to check the speakers themselves for damage with his testing equipment (though they do still have the proper impedance readings for tweeter and woofer so they should be okay), but what happened with the crossovers, and what's Polk's warranty process look like in this situation?
