Hi all, I'm thinking about a road trip to Prince Rupert, taking the ferry to Port Hardy, ride the island to Victoria & retuning to Alberta on hiway#3. Has any one taken the ferry from Prince Rupert to Port Hardy? Is there much too see on the ferry route? Or would Bella Coola to Port Hardy be better?
Hi 2005 Roadking! The Inside Passage route between Prince Rupert and Port Hardy is very well known for the beautiful wildlife and outdoor scenery it provides. This route is quite popular with tourists from around the world and is highly recommended in numerous travel reviews. We invite you to check out our website, www.bcferries.com for fare information and schedules. Here's further detailed information on how to book reservations on this route :http://www.bcferries.com/res/forms_home.html . The Discovery Coast Connector route between Bella Coola and Port Hardy is equally charming and beautiful. This route is different in that it involves a vessel transfer and sailings are not as frequent as the Inside Passage. You will be able to find out information about this route at the above link as well. It sounds like you are planning a trip that might require accommodations along with your ferry travel and BC Ferries can help with that too! Our BC Ferries Vacations department can create personalized packages that combine your ferry costs and hotel stay at unbeatable rates. What is the motorcycle price + rider and passenger?
Took that ferry from Prince Rupert to Port Hardy 2 years ago. The trip is around 15-16 hours and cost $500 all in. The south bound run was in the daytime, northbound at nite.
I stayed in Prince Rupert the nite before, you need to be at the Ferry terminal early! I also had a reservation in Port Hardy waiting for me. The run down the island the next day would have been great, but it rained hard on me all day. The ferry ride was a great experience. I also spent extra money to reserve a seat, and paid for a buffet breakfast and dinner. That's included in the $500. There was also beer and burgers available at lunch on an aft deck in addition to a regular lunch offering in the dining area. All good. If you are traveling with someone you could rent a room for the trip. I went at the end of May and the vessel was basically empty, maybe 30 cars, 1 or 2 trucks and my bike.
It was always a trip I wanted to do, and am real glad I took the opportunity when I could. Anything else, just ask.
Cheers, Peter

Been to Prince Rupert, a beautiful drive. Something that I have looked into.
BTW, I would never expected BC Ferries to join and respond to a HD thread.

I'm not surprised at all, like any quasi gov't/crown corp they have several office buildings full of people who make over $100k a year that have not much to do all day...
