I'm planning my first trip to Montreal, and have some questions:
What's a good time to visit? I was thinking late August.
I'll be riding from central Maine, following a pit stop at my Father In-Law's place. Google maps shows the direct route as Autoroute 10, but also shows an alternate following 55 to 40, following the St. Lawrence, which adds an hour, but seems like a nice ride.
A good time to visit? Anytime from now (F1 this weekend) Jazz festival (June 26-July6) Just for laughs festival (July12-26) those are the major ones. But plenty more stuff outside of those to see (Old Montreal is a must). Weather wise, almost identical as New York, Vermont, Connecticut and Maine, so end of August is very good. I would choose a secondary parallel road west to highway 10 as my first choice (or highway 10 before 20 or 40). And most important, be assure that you will be most welcomed in this province, (American tourist money is nice LOL) if someone doesn't speak English, someone will help you out! (in Montreal, rare are those that don't speak English, its very cosmopolitan)
