I just buttoned up my 01 ultra conversion and just on my first shake down ride OMG what a difference! I cant wait to fine tune what I can and ride the **** out of my girl. I used a thunder heart stand alone on setting 5 with a CV40 with a 48 and 190 jet. The motor has a SE203 and free breather and pipes and I cant believe the power and manners this has. Again I havent even began to fine tune it. MM is definitely not a great fuel management system.
If you got time, listing some parts and costs, might help people. Years ago there were kits, not sure if they exists anymore. Also were a few threads on forums. As parts get scarce I suspect this conversion will be the best option for some. But it is a narrow band of people, so maybe not a lot of support.
Glad to hear ya like it! I did the EFI to carb conversion on my 07 Dyna 75,000 miles ago. Had crap mpg with the CV-40. Swapped it out for a Mikuni HSR 42. Turned it into a BEAST!!!! Instant throttle response and 50mpg (IF I'm easy on the throttle.)
UPDATE: Okay, so my original post must have been fueled by some beer and the fact that the bike started right up easily and had a bunch of power. After more than a ride around the block moment I took it and rode it for a bit and have some issues.
1) The turn signals don't self cancel anymore. Checked the white/green wire from the speedo and it isn't broken and is connected. This is a strange issue because the turn signal module doesn't use any data from the EFI system to function and yet here I am.
2) Cruise control won't engage. Need to check the throttle cable roll off switch but white/green wire from speedo is good to there as well.
3) Tach reading drops out randomly while cruising. Pink wire is good from tach to ignition box. I am guessing the cheap China made coil and wires that came with the Thunder Heart ignition is the cause for this for sure. I also think the coil could be causing the turn signal module to not act right.
4) The exhaust is 2-3 time louder than it ever was, very noticeable and not loud as in a leak. Also couldn't adjust the idle mixture screw because idle was choppy and it was making finding the sweet spot difficult.
I am starting to think the Thunder Heart Ignition kit is crap. I ordered a new NAMZ carb harness and a Daytona TC88 ignition module and will be putting my stock coil and wires back on. We will see how much of my issues disappear.
The Stand Alone Ignition is a RACE unit. No voes or maf sensor just pure straight advance & retard. Only issues with my 07 (Delphi) EFI to Mikuni conversion is I have blown every error code on it and engine light is on constantly. Disabled CE light in speedometer. Yer 01 is a completely different story. Personally, if it was my 01, I would have gone the NAMZ an TC88 route.
