Default 90 sportster idle cable.

Reinstalled carb and the throttle doesn't snap back to idle position. Sort of slowly returns. Slooowly. Is it just a cable adjustment.
The cable adjuster is set to where there NO slack taken up on the cable. When adjusted to take up slack or tighten it gets worse doesn't return at all. Tried stretching the small spring where it attaches to carb. Any thoughts. Thanks v

Remove cable from carb, does the carb snap back properly? If yes, go back to cable routing and adjustment. if no, your carb is gummed up. Good luck.

Ok I'll try it. Just rebuilt the carb ...so maybe the carb spring is the issue if it doesn't work with cable unattached. It should snap back ...correct?. Thanks v

If you take all the slack out of the return cable it will cause that on some bikes.

Put a little slack in each cable, that should free it up.

For your information: To make a spring stronger you shorten it, not stretch it. Add a spacer of some sort.

Check the routing of the cables, especially where they pass under the tank. I usually just reach under there and jiggle them around, also make sure the push cable sits on top of the spring and they are both enclosed in the little housing on the carb.

Thanks all, Will do all the above. Just got done painting. LMKWYT...if thats really an acronym.

Interesting about compressing the spring to make it stronger. One would think stretching the spring would add more compression therefore more energy. I'll check it out.
