what your looking for is a long prolonged jet of fuel, not a short fat jet of fuel. And where it is” directed”
most stock carbs direct that fuel at only the rear cylinder…..tweek it to hit at the “split” so your fuel delivery is as even to both cylinders as possible.
main jet size used for full throttle fuel setting.
Take regular plug readings after riding 10 or more miles at steady throttle settings. (To avoid false readings caused by accelerator pump)
for you “slide” carb guys….the needle height and size control midrange fuel delivery.
it sound like your slide (needle)may be too high to get such dark plugs.
plugs should be a “light” chocolate to tan color…..also look at the base of the plug (the round part at base of threads) chocolate color is what you need to look for.
it can be tough to read plugs with all of the fuel additives in todays fuel….have fun, be patient, and good luck.
