my son bought me this frame for fathers day to start a long wanted shovelhead project unfortunately he got it with no paperwork i need help figuring out any info about this frame like, what year, model can the casting numbers mean anything no vin block but stamped steering stem and the most peculiar is a Maltese cross under the steering neck. The state of Texas has been of no help the tank tabs were cut off and there's no markings on the upper motor mount maltese cross

Well it's got a Texas blue tag which means it's gone through the system and assigned a new ID number. Curious how that happened as that's a mid 70's frame the number boss has been ground off, cast floorboard tab says it was a FL frame. What he doesn't want to do is remove that sticker till he gets it looked at by whatever LEO agency your state uses for that kind of stuff. With that tag a bill of sale should do as whatever he builds with it will have to have a new VIN assigned for a special construction title to get issued. Built a couple this way but with aftermarket frames.
Would suggest a few pictures and a call to the DMV to get a starting point. Make sure things are squared legally before sinking another dime into it.
Grease fitting in the neck is a nice add but that much grease in the neck will be a disaster in real hi heat - as it turns to liquid and runs on the the brake rotor when parked
