Before they invented the add on starters we had done just that - trans shaft changes as well and we used 65 to 69 inner and outer primary’s as many parts were usable
also we did a few with the 1970 up alternator again different main shaft for the trans and in the generator location we put a evo 4 speed sportster oil filer as we were not using the generator and its a bolt on
both swaps required the cylinder tops to be decked as well as the picket holes rounded - and the timkin was helpful but we found the pinion race needed to be oversized to come into alignment with over size rollers
many were done not some odd off hand one time guys were and still are getting old and kicking is a not the idea if you still want to ride
