Default Heel toe

Ride an 84 Electra glide with EVO engine. Currently has only a toe shifter. Ordered and got one piece heel toe arm, but won’t clear engine case. Looking at parts diagrams, I see newer bikes have the shaft and arm to linkage as separate pieces, whereas mine the arm is welded to the shaft ( same on my sons 88).. looks like if I replace the shift rod and arm, mission accomplished. any other suggestions on adding the heel toe?

Shift rod has to be long enough to accommodate both levers. My EVO was a '98, and everything was separate on it. I did replace a worn out shifter shaft in the parking lot of a HD dealer in Iowa on an x-country trip....it was not very hard at all.
