Can you use any 6 volt motorcycle battery or do you need a harley battery?

any 6V will work
as long as the physical size is the same or close.
Check CCA and AH on it, not sure if they use those on the batteries for older bikes.

With a bit of shimming a 6V for a `55 - `69 BMW works well
Costs less and lasts longer than the repops made to fit

Thanks for the advice. I ordered a B49-6. It's really close to the original size. I think it will work fine.
