I remember them. They also had some yellow striping to simulate the gold braid on a Confederate officer's uniform. I'm surprised that HD still sells the decals with the eagle head and crossed US and CSA flags. You'd think the PC police would have removed those from the dealerships years ago.
Harley won't even aknowledge they built the 1977 Confederate Edition. They built a few hundred FX models, 400 plus Sportsters and only 42 FLH models with the confederate trim. It had a flying confederate flag with a gold rope on the tanks, A gold sleeve brade on the front fender
Looks great -- 1st one I have seen on the net that I can actually talk to some one. Been looking for several years wondering if I run up on someone else with one.
You fix it back or is it original?
I'm wondering how a person could find info on the vin #'s attached to these M/C's in order to A. prove authenticty and B. possibly find a hidden 77 with a repaint or something. It really irks me when people associate this flag with racism. As I am aware aspects of this flag did involve human rights issues, I moreso believe it represents our American patriotism in defense of politcal tyranny and our right to defend our country against all enemies foriegn and domestic. As a caucasian male, I stongly believe in equallity across all races and genders, and encourge any and all American's to defend this country and our rights as Americans. I would feel proud to own one of these models in the interest of passing along my belief in its meaning. I'm a disabled veteran, but fully functional American.
