Question Help me get started?

Hey all

I'm starting to get an interest in finding and restoring an old bike. From just browsing the 'net, I'm thinking something along the lines of an early 50's FLH or similar. Problem is, I'm stuck for good, basic info on classic Harleys, sources, technical information, values, etc.

Can anyone recommend websites, books, or other sources where a n00b can get started?

thanks!

Best book for restoration "How to Restore Your Harley-Davidson by Bruce Palmer III. Has detailed info on Knuckleheads 36-47, Pan Heads 48-64 and flat heads 45, 74 and 80's. Restoration is not cheap, especially if you intend it to be all original OEM parts. By the book and see what you are in for.

If you get a pic of something you want to buy. These guys will can pick it to death, I mean in a good way. They know what year is what and which part don't belong.

I think if you look in the e-bay section you will see what
i mean. Some guy says he has an original bike and not according to these guys, but I would never known

Amazes me the knowlege of old bikes they got.

Thanks guys! I appreciate the offers of help and references.

Im not running out this weekend to buy something, I want to do some research first so it'll be a while before I'm actually dropping any cash.

I"m torn between doing a 100% original restoration, and something along the lines of what a "reasonable" amount of mods might be for a bike that is actually still being ridden.

Anyway I'll keep y'all posted on my progress.
