Impact is the only way deal with it, you can rent a comp & air gun if you can't borrow one or find an electric unit and give it a try, muscling usually just screws something up.
Mount for the trans even if welded has slots for the case studs for adjustments and it doesn't take but a hair to loosen that belt, trust me.
