Well I'll say one thing for the PO their bondo skills were good.

There had to be at least a gallon used and sanded off that thing before it was done

I was just as impressed, the guy was a sculptor in his spare time.

Ready for blasting tomorrow morning and I'll have it back in the afternoon. The air scaler worked great for the hard to reach areas after I chipped off about 10 lbs of cheese. No more surprises thankfully.

I'm curious to see what's what after a good sand hosing.

Don't think I've seen that much bondo since Arlen Ness's early creations he used to keep in his little I love me museum.

Looks a lot better blasted thats for sure.

The neck Im going to gusset in 4 places. Small triangles filling the lock hole area on both sides and the area under the tank that has the 3/8" plate in place of strut from the engine mount to the neck. Rather than cheese it in like it was before I'll gusset that area as well on both sides of the existing plate to fill in that space and strengthen it, basically covering the inner plate by having two flanking it with proper welds and brought out to meet the edge of the backbone and neck. Minimal bondo and less sculpting talent required. The only area I plan to mould is the neck / backbone area and the rest will show the forgings.

I need a tank with a deeper tunnel to get the look I want with the solid strut area, a prism or coffin would be cool.

The left axle clip had a juice brake stay tab welded on which I'll retain, just need to improve how they converted it from mechanical brakes and center the wheel better.

The rest is just some time cleaning up welds, removing welded on stuff etc

What I thought were fatter legs turned out to be a lot of filler and that they were extended, possibly slugged. I need to take a closer look at that.

Yeah I was going to mention that, hopefully they were slugged and not just stuffed in there butt welded.

Still a good grinder and some carbide burrs are in your future, lotta bubble gum to clean up.

I doubt its slugged so Im going to drill a small hole above and below the weld on the legs or in the middle of the extension to see if I hit solid. If I don't then one option that comes to mind is I can do a canoe cut in the tube and insert a steel dowel that then gets plug welded like they do on the forgings then close it up. Another option is to cut the pieces out and slide two short slugs in above and below the section before putting a new piece back in and with a small slot in the leg I can slide the slugs into place then weld. We'll see when I get there on that.

Or take some measurements, have a local machine shop spin you out a couple stepped slugs to your spec then just cut the garbage out and redo it clean. Be less work and you know what you got when done.
