Default Cylinder Liner

Anyone know how critical cylinder liner protrusion is? Is it acceptable to file the face flat with a finishing stone or did I just ruin my jug? It's a 120 ultima.

New head gasket thickness is .085" so I'm thinking this is enough squish.....

I would not run a cylinder that protrudes above the deck; it is defective and bad juju waiting to happen. .085" squish? Are you kidding or am I missing something.?

There is a spec on some engines for the height of the cylinder liner. It protrudes in order to add clamping pressure on the head gasket. Im talking a few thou higher than the jug, nothing major. Just curious if evo has a spec on that. Its a 120 ultima bored 30 over.

Yes the gasket thickness on inner rib measures .085", this is the area that creates the actual seal.

I'm just looking for some literature on the liner dimension. I'm guessing based on these responses it'd not critical.

OK, not familar with the Ultima so my thinking may not be applicable and I am no help at all. I have had cylinder liner protusion on a set of sleeved OEM TC cylinders; made a nice paper weight. TC OEM head gasket is .045" but .030" is the typical target for squish\ different animal I guess.

If the piston is protruding from the cylinder with a thick head gasket like 0.085", it may be fine in that regard. It just depends on what the amount of piston protrusion is. As mentioned above, you want the squish in the 0.030" to 0.040" range.

As far as the liner protruding, how much are you talking about? To my knowledge, there shouldn't be any. I've never seen that on any HD cylinder.
