Default Stupid question time

&nbsp\\; I'm currently building a sportster powered hardtail, buying parts as the budget allows. Next purchase on the list is wheels and tires. Looking to run 40 spoke 16 inchers front and rear. For the rear, I want a single flange wheel since I plan on using a&nbsp\\;"sprotor" brake set up.
&nbsp\\;Now comes the stupid question part... except for flanges, what is the difference between a front and rear wheel??? Can I buy a wheel listed as a front and run it in back?
&nbsp\\;Wayne

The front has holes on one side only for attaching the disc. The rear has holes on one side for the disc, the other side for the drive pulley.
