honda cb900c
i came accross a few cb900c and i dont understand why it was discontinued, apparently it was not popular even though it was created for the american market.
i have two perfectly restored 1981 and they are beautiful. but they have to be sold.
until i came accross a third for myself, i never thought id own one. bought this thing for 250 from a guy in the desert who bought it new, put 27k in 3 years, then parked it and never rode it since. so sad. it was piled under 20 years of storage items and animal nests and dirt and rain. also it was parted out so it was in pieces and missing some parts
i put it together into a rolling chassis with motor and here is the first pic. its mostly cleaned up

the tank was rusted to hell on the outside but oustandingly clean inside. so rust removal and paint happened and now its white.

ive always wanted a touring bike and i had my eye on a few goldwings but i found this and im turning it into my touring bike.
why?
1. its a honda, its going to last forever on basic maintenance, which is few and far between.
2. fully adjustable air shocks front and rear, stock. work perfect and adapt to every condition.
3. the stock seat and peg location and these handlebars make for a goldwing like experience in terms of comfort. its a joy to ride, (remeber i have 2 others that are the same model and have the same bars and seat, ive ridden them a lot to know as well)
4. shaft drive. with a sub transmission. what does that mean? every gear has a half gear. basically 10 gears or just use the final half gear as an overdrive. either way, amazing fuel economy on streets or freeway with passing ability anytime
5. its a 900cc inline 4 DOHC with oil cooler on frame and 4 keihin cv carbs. reliable power.
6. it will handle any modification i plan to make, which is many
i already have a rear rack with passenger backrest, and saddlebags.
i cannot decide if i want to add a windsheild. or just remove the headlight and speedo/tach combo and install an entire front fairing either ripped from a big twin or early goldwing, so i can install the full fog and driving lights i need, as well as a windsheild. and have room for all the dash instruments and room for a radio and mroe storage.
someone chime in on their thoughts on a radio. i really do want it so help me with the best way to install it and where to find a front fairing to fit all that i need.
power is no problem, already have alternator and regulator capable of handling seat and grip heaters, radio and amp, fog and driving lights, and anything else i might need.
well thats my project, the last pic is my progress as far as just an hour ago. the first pic is how i rolled it in this morning. i rebuilt the carbs with everything new inside and new bolts outside. lubed everything and changed fluids, did valve adjust and gasket replace for what needed it. removed whatever rust was there and sealed the rest. i need to buy tail light assembly and left hand control box, but it runs as is
before i can start putting miles on it i need a new clutch cable. maybe new throttle cables.
Honda sold Fairings, saddlebags and trunks for these bikes that were colored to match. See attached thumbnail - added Hondaline Faring and trunk.
The Hondaline fairing for these bikes also fit the GoldWing and had comparments for storage and the hondaline radio. Some guys bought Windjammer fairings, but they just didn't look right to me.
I loved the hell out of the 750C. My bud had the 950c in marroon. Both nice bikes for the day and I would ride it today if I still had it.
before i can take it out for a maiden voyage i have to make sure it has working brakes.. other than that it runs nice.
small stuff to add is mirrors, and i will paint the lower ohalf of this windsheild white to look like a fairing, and then build the inside to have some storage and support a radio and the stuff i want. there is enough room i just have to be creative with mounting.
is it safe to drill some mounting holes in the windsheild itself? its all one piece and the mounts it already has are epoxied onto it, no holes.
also got rear rack on and fitted some throw overs, but these flopped inward and hit the tire and brakes so i put them somewhere else, i cant decide if i like it or not haha

these are down low
and these are up where they dont hit anything

Cool bike btw. Had an 81 750c man I loved that bike, always got lots of complimants on it and it never gave me a problem. Even had me those Mag Mopus tires with the big ol white letters LOL.
painted the fairing, added fog/passing lamps
and added a working 12v accessory plug, same as a cigarette lighter in a car. all in a small black box mounted to the fairing in front of the handlebars. pics below

that accessory plug is cool becuase i use a car charger for my cell phone through it, and i have a tmobile Sidekick. which if you are into phones, is a GPS and map device as well as microsoft and Bing live search for gas prices and resteraunts and such, all in the vicinity of the device, which is now my bike when i ride. and it also has 16 gigs for music like an ipod and full internet. which means i set up some speakers and a small amp and i have music,
but even better ill set up a small radio on the other side of the dash with 2 speakers up front and 2 in the armrests im going to build in a few days. and have full audio.
im loving this bike! im waiting until i have a few days off of work to go on a nice vacation.
bought a service manual and did a 100% service on the whole bike yesterday as well
