1991 883 BobberChopper Project-Cost?
I have a 1991 Sportster 883 that was handed down from my girls folks, it was her moms but due to her being sick on and off the last 5-10 years it has sat and is now ours. It needs to be serviced, it is leaking oil, but starts and runs. It is in very good shape otherwise, very low miles and is stock with a fatboy tank.
Long story short I will have about $5,000 to start, from selling my street bike to put into making this thing come back to life as a bobber. I know I can get bolt on kits for a decent price and do it myself but I want to stretch it out a little bit and really put some work and money into it.
The 883 is plenty for me, I'd like to use the bikes engine and transmission components but don't know how much everything else is going to cost me.
There is a bike over in the UK that I spotted on youtube (here is the link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZprX9GmKzck ) and found out who built the rolling chassis: http://fenlandchoppers.co.uk/FENLAND...20CHASSIS.html same bike is half-way down the page.
The specs I know of:
21" rim up front running -2 under DNA springers with a 33 rake with a 2" stretch in the backbone and a 200/18 with a 2" stretch in the back, the motor is an 03 XL883r
Ideally, I would like to know if anyone out there makes a chassis similar where I can get that type of stretch for this bike or can I have the stock frame stretched? What do you guys think I would be looking at price wise if I either worked on this with my buddy or had a shop help me out?
I sold mine 3 years ago. had the DNA springer and everything.
5 grand CAN build a decent bobber since you already have the bike.
