I picked up a custom build from a family member and I am trying to work the kinks out to get it running. One problem is when he started the build he purchased a wrecked bike. He had the frame straightened but the tranny shaft has a slight bend in it and its eating up seals. Its a 1957 Santee rigid, 1998 Evo 80, with a 4 speed ratchet top jokey shift.
Baker has a N1 kit for ratchet tops that fit 1952-1979 4 speeds. Where do I find the make and year on this thing? Any one know what years they made ratchet tops? I am guessing but I think it is not an after market tranny but not sure.
79 was the last year for the ratchet style the they went to big Maytag or cowpie as we lovingly called them . Ratchet lids only came 2 way , jockey shift for the old pans and the drum type . They will all enter change . Only question is which mainshaft they used in the build there's 2 it might be , slight length difference .
Get a pic I'll ID it for you no questions , I've got at least 5 4 speeds and at least a 100lbs of spare parts for them .
