I decided that since I had the tank off for the plug wires that Id change the plugs too, so back to my dealership I went (I dont know why I just didnt get them yesterday). So my baby got a plug and wire change at 8k miles, all because of one wire melting on the engine. While I had the tank off, I figured Id get the motor cleaned up too. That took quite a bit of work, using damp mf and some of those detailing swabs. I clay barred the rocker covers, then hand polished them, then debated about whether or not to hit them with CanCoat, ultimately choosing to do it. I dont know if this was the right decision, I guess Ill find out whenever I finally get to actually ride my bike and get the engine hot. I got it all back together, except for the windshield it was almost dark when I called it a day. I was hoping, really hoping, that Id be able to ride to work tomorrow (its supposed to be almost 70! ) but I had so much stuff off of this bike that I dont want my first ride to be at 3 am in the dark for an hour, I need to go back over everything and make sure I didnt forget something, and double check all my bolts. Hell maybe Ill just call in tomorrow!
Anyway, heres a few pics, Ill get more when I can take it out in the sun
Regarding your tank, it was maybe 8-10 years ago that I followed a long thread on a Goldwing forum about a guy who dropped a short length of plastic tubing into the oil fill hole in the motor. He had overfilled it and was trying to remove some of the oil. As I recall, after many failed attempts, he had to have the motor taken apart to get the tube out. Afterwards, I made a rule to myself never to put any short tubes into fill holes etc.
Its weird. Overall, Im happy with my work and think that it looks a lot better now. But ever since I got this bike, and in particular since I started researching and then actually doing some detailing, Im a lot more OCD than I used to be. I had to literally talk myself out of doing the whole bike again as I was putting it back together.
Ill definitely get some more up, probably Friday when Im off. Its supposed to be around 60 so Im hoping to get a ride in before winter, but Ill take some more then
All back together today, finally, except for those little bolt covers on the engine, theyre a bit of a PITA to get on, and I said screw it because my main goal was to get a little riding in, even if it was only for about an hour. Its been damn near a month and thats completely unacceptable, I almost forgot how much fun this bike is to ride. I cant thank you guys enough for all the advice and tips, and even though it isnt flawless Im very happy with the end result. Yall are probably sick of looking at my bike, but here she is in all her glory
Dont mind the Neon in the background, its one of the things Ive been neglecting for the last month so its kinda stuck there right now !
