Default RE: New bike care

I owned my '03 Fatboy since new. I used a petroleum based wash/wax system for about a year. Bikelooked good, product was fairly easy to use, but left a white residue when it dried and if you missed wiping it off, it showed, plus if you got it on the black engine, it was terribly hardto get off. I found a product (www.cajunshineall.com) that is water based and worked equally as well in protection and was very easy to use. My scoot had tons of chrome. I did have problem areas, one being on one of the mirror stems, the other on the side of the "road king" style headlight that would get surface rust due to the high humidity in my area. I waxed these two trouble areas when needed before the rust became a problem, but the rest of the bike I only waxed once, maybe twice yearly. I also never washed my bike with water unless it had severe road film from having to ride in excessive rainand wet road conditions. The remainder of the time,I used Cajun Shine All probably at least once a month, more if I had lots ofbugs or bike needed a good cleaning before a show or ride and I wanted it to look good. After nearly 40K miles, the bike still looks as good as new, chrome, every part. This product does a goodjob and takes me about 2 hrs to totally do my bike. Isold it in June, bought a new UltraClassic and have done it about 3 times already. It is due again and will probably get it by weeks end. This product leaves a slick film onsurface that is akin to wax, but is awater based product. I swear by it and have several friends who know my bike and the condition it is always in who have began using it becausemy bike alwayslooks soclean and nice. Very little effort for some outstanding results, never too soon to start either. You might check this product and see if it suits your needs and will work for you. I think it is the best invention since the wheel...PACO

Hey dietdewboy, don't let the dealer anywhere near the bike with the cheap silicone based furniture polish. Harleys are well known for their paint quality and finish then dealers spray this crap all over them.Do a google search and have a look at the issues regarding silicone and paint. Have a look at www.bowdensown.com.au and have a good read. They are fanatical about their auto paint, and have a large part of Australia's muscle car history in their hands. Good luck with the new scoot.
