Default Magic carpet ride?

When I traded in my Fatboy, and bought my Ultra Classic, I asked my salesman how he kept his old Ultra looking new. He asked if I parked on cement, and I said yes. He said concrete draws the moisture out of the chrome, and makes it pit. He said by parking it on a stip of carpet 4'x8', it would help keep my bike looking new. He also said the concrete sweats, and that adds moisture to the bike, causeing rust. So, now I don't know what to believe. All in all, my question is this. Does parking your bike on a rug or carpet in the garage help it to stay looking new over the years?

I always park on a piece of carpet 2 pieces because of the tires and moisture from the floor

So...the carpet is a common thing? This guy was not full of crap? So...what would be the purpose of the carpet? Does anyone know?

I know I have a lot of questions. I am thinking about getting a 4'x8' HD carpet I saw on the internet. It is for parking your bike on, but other than aesthetics, what would be the reasoning?

I've always assumed the parking on a carpet thing was a habbit left over from when Harleys leaked oil like a sieve. Can see no other reason to do so.

All I can say, is if a salesman said it, then it must be correct. They know everything.

Seriously, sucking the moisture out of the chrome??? Sheesh.....
