They best protection for chrome is going to come from sealants not wax. Here is a link to a great one.

that seems like it is good for only cleanign and polishing,......but wax actually puts a coat of protection on the chrome as it does paint ....atleast i think it does???? i mean it has been proven to do so no??

I use chrome polish made by turtle wax. It's cheap, readily available and it works great. It's all I have ever used on chrome for 30 years, no problems. Takes off bugs, tar, light surface rust and leaves a brilliant shine. I'm sure any brand of chrome polish will do the same thing.

If the chrome is dirty I use Blue Magic. Lots of times I just use wax.

Waxing chrome is a waste of time. It won't make it any shinier or less prone to rust. Don't believe me? Take a piece of old chrome. Wax half with your favorite wax. Leave half bare. Lay it out in the weather. Both sides will rust equally.

Good chrome should need nothing other than washing with soap and water, glass cleaner or similar. Think about all the cars from decades ago that had chrome trim all over them. They sat out in the weather for years and years before the chrome even rusted or pitted. Your average garage kept, babied, HD shouldn't need pampering to keep the chrome from rusting. However, I've seen HD's cheap assed chrome literally rust overnight after sitting out in the rain.

Waxing probably want do to much for you...around engine is just going to burn off.
Cleaning chrome? Polishing soap is best as it will help remove contaimnants but windex will work in a pinch.
Polishing chrome is normally necessary to remove faint lines from improper washing and drying. Sealants will help with optical clarity and give addded protection from the junk in the air. Yes, just as air-borne contaimnants get on paint they will settle on chrome also.
As far as old chrome (yesteryear), face it the quality was better. Time and time again you can clean up an old piece of 30 year old chrome and then turn around and find a just chromed piece that is crap. I believe is is just thinner today along with the polution and junk in the air makes it hard to keep up.

chrome shouldn't be waxed. it needs to breathe and the wax does not allow the chrome to breathe making it pit and peel off
