Vivid Black and scratches......help!
I used the ScratchX and foam applicator on the back of the left rear saddlebag to check to see how it was gonna do.............Took me 3 hours of buffing with Zymol to remove even more scratches done by the ScratchX.
I personally would not recommend the ScratchX on a black paintjob. I'm not sure what it would take torestore black back to factory clarity.........but until it gets to the point the elements and I have done the deed to the paint, I'mjust gonna use a combo of Meguires Liquid Gold and Zaino.
Hope this helps someone else and thanks againguys for your time.
EDIT: Maybe some Pinnacle products from Autogeek.net applied with the Porter Cable 7424?
ScratchX is pretty mild..we have used it for years on small spots instead of using a buffer.
The ScratchX should have been a light paste..not gritty.
Did you use a new foam pad?
I am asking because I am interested in the process that gave you a bad outcome.
Figuring out the problems helps us all to have a better outcome.
Oh yea....what does Zymol have to remove scratches? I have used their paint cleaner that has filllers in it.
Yes, if you can get a backing plate and 4" inch polishing pad (normally white) and mild polish your results will be much, much better.
The reason I will recommend ScatchX on this forum is because most want something they can pick up at a parts store.
A lot of polishes need heat to break down the abrasives and flash..hence using a buffer. ScratchX does not require heat.

I hope my reply on my results does not come across like "you led me down the wrong path", because I certainly am not implying this. I really appreciate you and the others replies.
Back to subject..........I bought 2 brand new foam applicators and the ScratchX. I applied it very lightly to the rear of my saddlebag and then lightly buffed with clean cloth. The "micromarring" was much more noticeable, even after applying Liquid Glass, Meguiars Gold Class, and even Zaino.
I then took the trusty Zymol and put on and took off about 10 coats with a terry applicator, then applied some Gold Class(Meguiars) and Zaino including the Z8 and I can still see some residual from the ScratchX when comparing it to the rear aspect of the right saddlebag, but not near as bad as before.
I am EXTREMELY particular and finicky with my toys, so I may be expecting too much and pro detailing may be in store, as this is my first solid black toy.
The video at the Autogeek.net website using the portercable handheld, foam applicators, and pinnacle products in the step process was very impressive...............any experience with these products and/or is there something better?
Much thanks for your replies in advance.
A good idea when repairing damaged paint is to have a spray bottle of ISO alcohol and water (50/50). Spray and wipe with MF..this will clean off any polish/wax/sealant and let you know how the work is going.
Optimum Polish w/PC on speed 5 with 4" backing plate and polishing pad should give you the results you need.
( Autogeek is Pinnacle so thats why you will see those products in the videos...but the do have a large array of other manufacturers products)

Check your local Lowes....have seen posts on other forums that they are closing out the PC 7336 for around 50.00. 7336 is same as 7424 expect the pad size is different.
This one here?
