I just bought a beautiful 2000 Lowrider, I put Kuryakyn forward controls on it and found out I cant put a crash guard on it? This is my first Dyna and wanted a crash guard on it. Are there any other options?
I have forward controls on my WideGlide and had no problems installing my Lindby Guard bar. I would feel like I would be riding naked without it. What ever it takes make it fit.
I was able to install the crash bar using the U-bolt approach fine, however it interfered with the operation of the brake (well, actually it eliminated the operation of the brake), so I have to return the bar. Really wanted to use one.
I bought foot boards for my WG and they fit just fine with forward controls and crash bar.
Forgot to say that I bought the foot board kit and Crash bar from J&P cycles. Their sales rep was very helpful and made sure all the parts I purchased would work together. As you can see in my sig pic the crash bar has a little shape to it.
The 1993-2005 PN 49010-93 and below crash bar made for forwards will fit just fine. I have one on my 2001 FXD (see the photo below) and just picked up one for $100 shipped off of eBay for my son's 2004 FXDLI, both bikes have forwards. I just did a quick search and found a new one on eBay for $200 and a used one for $150. I am sure that there are more, just search using the part number. The engine guard for 2006-2014 will not fit. The older engine guards are getting hard to find from Harley.
My '03 FXD came with forwards and engine guard. They were too close and made it next to impossible to shift. That was the U bolt style guard thought. Sounds like most others with work.

I just cannot see this happening unless you have extended length forwards. I have the Harley forward kit and the only issue I have with the engine guard is that I occasionally get my toe on the right fog lamp when going for the brake pedal. The shifter lever is nowhere near the engine guard.
