Got my aftermarket tank painted and ready to seal. I was going to use Damon's Red-Kote, but I'm concerned about not being able to get all the leftover coating out because of the curved tank shape(the coating instructions warn of this).
Any exoeriences with other coatings or ideas???
Thanks.
It's an aftermarket tank that is bare metal inside. To prevent any rust, I'll need to seal it with something.
Also, the manufacturer suggests sealing it incase any of the welds aren't 100%.
Hindsight, I should have sealed it prior to paint.
But shoulda woulda coulda...
all tanks for the most part are bare inside, the gas will do that unless you leave your tank bare and empty in a moist area buddy. my tank is bare inside on my 73', 75', 97', 06, and 08'. all bare inside zero rust.

On a new, clean, metal tank, the only thing you need to do is keep it full enough of gas so that condensation cannot form while sitting for any length of time.
That said, I have used Red Kote with great success, even after painting. The key is to let it dry/cure completely before use--I went several times longer than the minimum time on the instructions. Absolutely zero issues after 2+ years, would use it again over other products I've tried before.
If you are coating it to seal any welds that might leak, that's a potentially good thing to do before wrecking your new paint. That's pretty much the reason I used it last time--it was a really old, but clean, OEM tank for an old Honda. I didn't want to take a chance with any more leaks, since that was what had wrecked the tank that came with the project.
