i hit the 15k point after i got the letter saying the bearing replacement wasn't needed so i didn't worry about it much. they had been in my primary for a different issue at around 10k i guess. the compensator sprocket rolled out and chewed up everything it touched. i'm not sure what all they replaced but i was off the bike for a full week. they don't offer loaner transportation so i was hitchin and car-pooling for that week. it sucked.
with the track-record, warnings and letters (all documented and saved) i figure i won't have any trouble getting the bearing replaced if it eventually goes kaflooey.
i'm at over 24k now and all is still well.
all the same, this will be my last new harley. i'm going back to evo and carb bikes.
My primary went at 8600...after I got the letter. I got a good stealer and they replaced it. I asked what happens when it goes again after the warranty runs out???? they said since it's a warranty part....I'm covered... II hope they are right. They have been good so far. MAKO
Mine was replaced at 15,800 miles because it was ground up pretty good.I'm interested to see what happens now. My bike's got 20,000 miles so we'll see if this one can last longer although they replaced it with an identical part. No upgrade or change in bearing design as far as I know.
heh-heh. 15k. i guess you didn't read AZ Rider or my post.
some of us are lucky/blessed enough to get to ride year round and then a few of us commute year round so it's easy to rack up the miles. i'm sure there are some lurkers out there with over 30k miles on their 06.
don't sweat it....
My 06 was making the whining noise so I took it in. The stealer told me that a starter sprocket had broken a tooth and the tooth had messed up everything in the Primary, to include the bearing. It had only been whining for about 500 miles and I never heard anything grinding inside. Oh well, I'll have basically a new primary when/IF they ever get it done haha.
It's been "waiting parts" for over a week now. At least the weather went crappy right after I turned it in to them so I wouldn't be riding much anyways.
I am taking delivery on an 07 Dyna Lowrider next week, what was the issue with the primary bearing? Couldnt find anything on HD wesbite. Was this 06 only?
My 06 bob started making noise at about 1000 miles.I took it back to the dealer for service they told me my trans was shot all because of that bearing. They replaced the trans and said that I no longer need worry about that 15,000service.I am guessing they found the cure.
