The reason they gave me was that the battery is not covered under warranty and is an exhaustible item like tires. that was their stand point.

They are full of crap. About the battery. Not about the tires. You can wear out a tire through normal wear and tear or abuse, so it is not covered unless there is a manufacturing defect.
I bought my bike privately with 400 miles on it. Two weeks before the warranty expired I took it to my local dealer. They replaced the battery and checked the charging system. While I waited, no questions asked.
Find another dealer in your area with a good reputation for service.

As far as I know a bike on the showroom floor has no oil, gas or battery in it. That is why some dealers charge you for prep. It seems to me that particular dealer has little need or respect for clients and should not be licensed to own a dealership.

yeah, never again. a warranty is only as good as the people who warrant it, and these people are not worth it. I called HD customer service and filed a complaint and hopefully get this taken care of.

I doubt it, Harley dosent stand behind their Product. Just ask anyone with a Rushmore series bike that's leaking coolant.
Buy a Service manual and start looking for a good Indy shop

Best of luck

Guys, read the label on the battery. Call back the dealer and offer the guy some glasses. I just checked my battery and it clearly says 24 month warranty. It also states 6 months if it's purchased over the counter or something like that.

Look for the warranty section of you manual or bike and look for a sentence that's says: "from date of purchase" or similar.

Obviously let them know that you'll let headquarters know how they're treating warranty and trying to scam customers to sell some extra parts.

Try going to a different dealer for the warranty claim. You are not locked into service at the dealership you bought the bike at. I had a similar experience with a car and another dealer of the same make was more then happy to get me as a new loyal customer. Other people here said that the dealer they patronize was willing to replace a battery so you should look around.

Yeah all good advice, thanks everyone. I will not set foot in that dealership again and will go out of my way to tell everyone my experience with their service department when asked. I will go to another dealership, Anyone had good luck with one in orage county or the inland empire california?
Anyway, I called corperate this morning and they said that when they spoke to the dealership yesterday the dealer said it was a mistake and will be covered. now I still have not gotten my bike back (they have had it for a week) but hopefully they didnt key it. I would not put it past them.

Good for you for holding their feet to the fire.
After you pick up the bike, be sure to let them know that you will be buying all your future bikes from other dealers who don't try to pull craap on you. It would be a favor to us all.
