So, like the title says, I'm looking at adding a second bike to my garage. I've been scouring E-bay and spend waaaay too much time looking. My dilemma is this: I want a bagger so I don't have to keep switching my Fatbob up. Plus with a second bike, I may chop the struts which limits it's functionality. So, the debate is Streetglide or Switchback. I love the handling of the Dyna and don't want to lose that "Fun" factor with a SG. I have ridden a couple of SG's and they were alright. Just not sold on getting one yet. Also, I love the look of the rear fender and bags on the SG's. Is there anyone out there making stretched bags and a rear fender for the Switchback that looks like the Street Glide? Switchback owners? Love to hear what you have found and what your thoughts were during your searches.

Update: I did find Sumax makes extended bags and a wider fender kit. Looks like it's fiberglass which may vibrate and show stress cracks... Thoughts?

Switchback is great, but the bags are really small. I rode one, and loved the ride. But if you are looking to do real touring, I would say SG. You can always jump on the Dyna for some fun.

As a guy who grew up on Sportsters and now owns a 2012 FLD I've to admit I'm only like 5'5" so that helps tip the scales in favor of the Dyna just due to the fact it's a lot easier for me to back up and maintain control. You also get the bagger look while still being super agile, at least in my opinion compared to my friends' Super Glides and Street Bobs. I was checking out Road Kings and Street Glides when I was still shopping and it just didn't add up for me. Obviously with it being a second bike I'm not sure if you're really willing to drop the bigger bucks on the Street Glide. I guess that boils down to whether you want all the bells and whistles or not. My boss rides a Road Glide and has never even turned on his stereo so ya never know...
On the other hand if you think you'll be happy with the SB you could easily do the mods you discussed and still have money left over. Whatever you decide you'll have to keep us updated. I know I'm curious to see what the new fender and bags would look like.
this probably won't help much but there is a 5000$ difference from a SG back to a SB, so think of the possibilities! I would vote FLD if this were a pole!
If I did not have a bad hip, then I'd much prefer a Road King over my new Switchback. The light weight SB fits my needs, and is fun to ride but it's definitely not a touring bagger. The other day I was at the dealer and sat on the new 2015 RK, (2-tone red/black), and that is a sweet looking/functional touring bike!
I have owned a roadking and flt neither fit me right , seemed like I was sitting to close to gas tank . here is my dyna with roadking fenders , shovel head bags
If you go with the FLD, you could always take a set of FLH bags and adapt them to the bike. It's actually quite simple as I have done this to my Street Bob. Took two Street Glide fenders and made one fender out of them. Then after searching ebay for days I found the saddlebag mounts from the FLD and adapted them to the bags. Bags are also notched out to move them forward. They still need a little work though.
Don't get me wrong, I'd actually rather have the FLD over a Street Glide. As Daisychain11B said as for short guys on a SG (I'm 5'6), the maneuverability of a dyna is easier for us. But as my wife isn't working right now, adding another bike isn't quite a reality just yet. This way I can have the best of both worlds of touring and running through the hills. Bags come off in seconds! So I'd go for the FLD if I were you.

I have the FLD, had a RK, both have their pluses and minuses. The RK is smoother, the bags are bigger, but it is not as responsive as the FLD. The power to weight ratio is not the same.
I looked at the SG, but I stayed with the FLD for quickness, flexibility, and fun. The fLD is great for overnight or weekend runs.
If I were to move on to a touring model, I am definitely thrilled with the new Road Glide and would give it it serious consideration.
