Question Rebuilding forks

Getting ready to rebuild the forks on my 98 low rider, I want to install the gold valve emulators or the ricor intiminators. Which one would be the best or the easiest to set up? To the guys that have used either, how well do they work and what difference do they make? Thanks guys.

In the end they do the same thing. The intiminators are designed to drop in and go and the emulators require drilling into the dampening rod a few times. Both will have great results, just depends who you want to give your money to

As Monster said the Ricor's are easier to install than the racetechs and thats why i choose them.

To me the Intiminators make the forks perform in a much more controlled and predictable manner. With the stock set up you are fine until you hit a rough patch then you see how ragged the forks perform and during a hard turn it can be scary! You will not have a plush ride with the Intiminators but you will have a front end that you can trust when hitting bad spots.

gold valve emulators are what i run, you do have to drill and chanfer your damper, i have full write up pics as well, and i have mine set at 5 turns if i recall correctly. Race tech will tell you just how to set them up, i love mine!

Ricor does not require drilling and are basically drop in, but i am not sure on how they handle i have installed several that where sent in when we tear down, powder and rebuild forks. i like the adaptability and rep of the gold valve emulators. Being that you are not drilling the damper rod they do not have the flow increase and response that the gold valve emulators have, but that would be a guess not a statement of fact

I would HIGHLY sugest you do your springs as well, be that progressive (what i run) or racetech, on a 98 those are prob pretty sacked out. i also run 15w spectro oil but race tech will tell you what would be best for your setup... do not let drilling the dampers worry you it is really easy to do

additional holes have to be added

Wow!! Thanks for the replies, one question, on my 98 low rider the factory manual states to leave 10mm of fork tube protruding above the top of the upper tree. Is the a reason for this or could I just put them flush? I dont really see what the difference would be, thanks again.

If you install them flush, your ride height in the front will increase (the opposite of lowering). You also may get trivially more flex in the front end.

I wouldn't think that 10mm can make that much difference!

I agree, so why not follow the HD SM - there may be a reason like not wanting to squeeze the top threaded part of the forks....
