Default Tall guys on Street Bobs

Here I am again. The dude in Afghanistan jones for the bike he's gettin' when he gets outta here. Since I have some time, I figured I would explore all options. While I am most leaning towards a Softail Custom, or Wide Glide (If they don't kill the sucker next year!) I also dig the Street Bob - as do many others, apparently. My question is how hard are they for tall guys to live with? I am 6'4" with a 36" inseam. The mid-controls seem like they would be cramped, but they look right on the bike. My last bike was a Honda CB750 which was as standard and "upright" as you get. That bike was comfy to ride and I don't THINK I looked like too much of a dork on it. (My wife might tell you otherwise after a glass of chardonnay.) Pictures of you tall guys on your SB would be awesome. Also, if you have put forwards on yours I am willing to listen to that too.

Thanks,

John

John,
I don't have a SB, but I do suffer from the same length inseam as you. I doubt feel very comfortable on the BOB without extended forwards. AS a matter of fact, you will not feel comfortable on ANY HD without extended forwards. This includes Softail models, and it does not look easy to extend controls on that family, but I don't have experience there.

You need to sit on all models you are considering and make your decision based on that.

Good Luck.

6' 3" 38 inseam, 275lbs, bob rules! lol, it is very comfortable but i have had forward controls from day one so i cannot tell you about the mids. i agree you better go test fit a few models to see what you like.

im only 6'1" w/ a 34" inseam and i find the bob a little cramped with forwards and the stock seat. not bad but not as stretched out as i would like to be. a new seat should give me an inch or so, and that should be plenty. extended forwards will probabaly be in order for you, but it depends on how you like to ride.
wishing you a swift and safe return home.

Forwards are a must. How do you plan on riding? Short trips no problem but if you plan on long trips, this could be a problem. I have noticed that the seat helps alot too.

The mid controls with the stock seat were uncomfortable for me on my superglide. My knees were higher than my hips. I got the tallboy seat and it was a big improvement. Next was to add highway pegs for cruising and this was also a big improvement. No need for forward controls now.

I also switched out the buckhorn handlebars for the stock bars from a lowrider and like that much better. Not sure which bars are stock for the bike you are considering though.

Drop the mids - I'm 6'2"/34" Insm and the fwds are like barely extended mids to me (real comfy).

I'am 6' with forwards on my 07 and it is still about 3" to short.
I get cramps on long rides and find it better if I had another 3" for a total strech of the legs I wont cramp.
I left the mid pegs on so I can position myself when the legs start hurting, so if your 6'4" forget it or sit on the passenger seat![sm=noooo.gif]
