I have a 2000 fxdx and I have internally wired Apes on it. Now I'm switching the bars and need to pull the internal wiring out..Heres my dilemma. My tank is off and I'm pulling the wiring out of the frame but the 2 connectors are still in the frame and it doesn't feel like I have any more slack to pull them out? If I look down the hole i can see the 2 connectors I just can't seem to pull them out and I don't want to pull too hard.
Can u get something back through the hole to push them back up? May have to remove them before pulling wire. If you can take them apart first it will be easier to reassemble them afterwards
Our bikes are not like the 06 and up, to get the connectors out of the frame , you need to remove the rear wheel, yes the rear wheel. Now look inside the fender here you will see a square plastic cover at the front of the fender towards the frame above the swingarm, this is where the wire loop is,remove this plastic cover, just cut off the plastic tie wrap, it helps to have someone push up the harness and someone pull from the neck, do not pull hard as you could tear some wires.
I made a video of my harness slack when I was doing some wiring on my 04 FXDX. Don't know if this helps with Dynas older then 04. I think the slack is in the frame behind the lower rear finder. This will give you an idea of how the harness can be pulled out in front.
My rear finder had that rubber cover at the bottom but I still had to remove the finder so I could unwind the harness.
