Quick Detatchable Windsheild
Hey guys,
My dad picked up a windscreen for his 97 wideglide, but the clamps are for a 49mm fork.
Can the clamps be switched out to the right size? if so, anyone have any part numbers I would need?
Thanks.

Any big hurry? I'm buying a windsheild off eBay that comes with 39's and I need 49's. Wanna just swap. Shipping for each of us would only be $5.90 by Priority Flat Rate mail.
Clamps by themselves can run $75/set.
edit: No wait. Is the '97 WG a 41mm?

OK, I made the same mistake years ago buying the same windshield from someone.
Here is the fix that has worked for me for many years and thousands of highway miles.
-- Home depot sells reinforced clear rubber tubing (you can see the cords running through the clear tubing). Get a 1 foot length of the largest.
-- Cut the tubing lengthwise. I used long handle pattern snips for sheet metal. It is tough to cut.
-- Now flatten the tubing out to a flat piece and cut an end piece off that is about 1.5" wide. Cut 4 pieces.
-- The tubing is heavy and will retain its shape.
-- Place a 2 pieces of the tubing on each fork.
-- Hold the tubing in place and close the windshield clamps over it.
-- The tubing adds the necessary thickness for the clamps to hold effectively and the tubing grips effectively.
If you cut them the proper width, it is unnoticeable. No one has ever asked about mine.
There is your fix.
Or, you can sell the windshield and start over.
Send me a note or post any questions here.
