I just got some bullet turn sigs with 39mm fork clamps off of a sporty to mount on the FXDX. Did a quick test fit last night, and they seem to leave a small gap where the two halves meet on each side, looks like crap. I didn't really torque the screws down real tight, I'm wondering if they will "snap" into place if I torque them a bit more. Anybody have any experience with this?
What size are your forks? If you do not have 39mm tubes then the answer is no. If you crank down on the bolts to close gap something will strip or break. Make sure you are using the right size clamps for your front end......
Are they solid billet halves or cast? The cast ones tend to stretch more over time. Is the gap between mating surfaces of the clamps, or between the clamp and the fork tubes? If it is between the clamps mating surfaces try tightening them up some more, if the gap is between the tubes and clamp, you may be able to grind a little of the mating surfaces until it clamps tightly on the tubes.,
I think they are cast, the gaps are between the clamp mating surfaces, I'm going to try and tightening them down more tonight and see if it helps at all
Well, still have a gap with them tightened. Not as bad as before, but still ugly. Any of you guys have turn signal clamps on a 39mm front end, and if so what brand do you recommend that leaves no gap?
Very inexpensive and I believe they will tuck the lights in nice and close. When I get around to chroming the front end on mine this is what I will probably go with.
I picked up some Drag Specialties fork clamps from my local indy at lunch today, they are way better quality and seem to have a more perfect "round" shape, i'll test fit them when I get home tonight
Well the drag specialties ones fit like a glove, so either the ones i were sent were smaller than 39mm or they were just crap quality. They weigh about 3x less than the drag specialties ones, and seem cheaper all around. Oh well, I got the ebay auction mostly for the bullet style turn sigs, not the clamps they were attached to.
