Default Moving up to a Dyna, Help!!!

I'm moving up from the Sporty1200 into a Dyna and looking for some help, pros and cons of the 07 Dyna and what model is the best to start with. The dealer says by the time I do a stage 1 on the bike and with pipes the windshield and seat I may as well move up to a Heritage model

Thanks for all the help

there is tons on pricing information on line. before you go to the dealer, you should know msrp on any model you are considering. it is also possible to find out what upgrades cost - especially "stage 1". it should be easy to go to the dealer armed with all applicable info - and you should laugh at them and call them liars when appropriate (most of the time).

based on the comments from the dealer - I guess you wouldn't need a stage1 upgrade on a Heritage? Why not? The stage1 and pipes has nothing to do with the model. the Heritage Softail has no more stock HP and torque than a dyna (actually a bit less).

I would go to a different dealer - fast.

There are not really any cons to the Dynas, other than they are nekkid bikes in stock form, so you have to add the basic necesseties, unless you are only using it as a bar hopper.

Wide Glides are the best Dynas. [sm=icon_stickpoke.gif]

Bait and switch man. Dude is trying to upgrade your finance amount, not your bike. Run while you still can.

My opinions on Dynas.........

FXD: Awesome, well priced big twin. If you wanna make her your own and change alot out go with this one.

FXDBI: Nice black denim motor, mini apes and a mini-me Wide Glide look. Mot much more than the Fxd but not my cup of tea.

FXDC: The FXD but with the tank speedo and lots of bling.Too pricey for me if your gonna custom it up.

FXDL: Nice ride but still a standard with a few extras.

FXDWG: Nice chopper look, good for tall guys, but if your gonna spring that kind of money out of mommas purse strings maybe bump up to a Softail?

What Jay said.

Bought my 07 Superglide because it was the cheapest way to get all the motor that the other boys have. I also don't like bling and what bling i have is what i choose where i want, not what someone else has decided for me. Go cheap, make dealer, HD, work for you not the other way around. Also i payed $1000 less than the MSRP because i had a downpayment but i had to call up five different dealerships to get a deal. Best 5 phonecalls i ever made.

i also couldn't beleive that black was the cheapest color, black is the best color for that bike, the only color for that bike. I went as cheap as i could and put my $$ in my pocket. a large part of my continued satisfaction with my ride is that i didn't pay an arm and a leg for it.

i also was given the stage one line. i just ignored it. great bike lots of power, you won't miss the extra 10% beleive me.

How important is doing a stage 1 on the Dyna!! and what does it include !with the 1200 06 Sportster to me it was almost night and day (with the carb cough) now gone and a little more HP it did make a differance.

Thanks for all your help

Stage 1 is a basic upgrade ... almost a necessity with the new bikes. They come from the factory so lean that the bikes run hot. Not unusual to see 10-15 % increase in power with pipes and a good dyno tune. AND ... If you buy the Heritage, it will need the Stage 1 also.

As a person who has owned a Wide Glide ... then a Softail ... and went back to a Wide Glide ... The Dyna's handle and ride are so much better than Softails. If you put any number of miles on the bike, stick with the more traditional shock setup. Instead of a Heritage, check out aRoad King. Softails have "The Look", but I prefer comfort. Ride both before you decide.

Over the last 33 Years I've had the opportunity to ride most models, my 2 favorites are the Wide Glide (Guessed that already?) and the Road Glide.

Leaving aside issues of personal preference about appearance, etc., the main reason you might preferaHeritage model to a Dyna is that the Dyna does not allow much leg room fora passenger. If you are planning on doing a lot of long two-up riding, the Dyna is probably not the bike you want. Other than that, I think you will find the Dynavery satisfactory. And a lot of Harley riders prefer the feel of the rubber mounted Dyna motor to the counterbalanced motor on the Heritage.
