Default Help removing stubborn bolt

So I'm trying to remove my exhaust and I have one bolt that is being a pita! Hopefully the pic I'm attaching will help. I've tried a ratchet and socket but it doesn't slide all the way on and I'm worried about rounding it off. Tried a wrench but no room to turn the wrench to break it loose. Any thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated.

Spray it with penetrating oil and let it sit overnight. Kroil is a really good brand to use. A 1/2" swivel socket might work, I use a short off set wrench on my lower rear stud

This is what I would try.

1) WD-40 24 hours. Really soaked
2) tap it a few times with a hammer. Use a screwdriver if hammer can't reach
3) look for a slimmer socket at the hardware store.

Hope some more and better advice follows.

Best of luck

it doesn't look that bad, use penetrating oil, let it soak for a few hours, you darn sure do not want to break that stud. if the nuts were rusted really bad the stud might come out but yours doesn't look that badly rusted.

tapping the nut with a hammer to try to knock it loose is a great idea.

and sears has these universal wrenches which are good for this type of thing, you'll never round off a nut with these., worth the $15 at sears.

these are not good for chrome fasteners though, they will damage the chrome.

Wow guys. Thanks for the quick replies. The penetrating oil did the trick (thought of it right after posting). Now the problem is that the studs are coming out with the nuts (only on the rear head). Should I tighten it back up and use more penetrating oil and wait a day or just pull the studs and nuts (basically makes it a bolt)?? Eek. Knew I should've started screwing around with a new-to-me bike.

Use a six sided socket and that should take it off without striping it any further.

PB Blaster IMHO is the best penetrating oil you can get.

A good quality 6 point socket.

Its okay if the stud comes out, put penetrator on the stud & wait, you do not want to break a stud, the front ones are usually the hardest to get out. if the studs come out just get new ones at a dealership, and new nuts too. just be careful not to break it so take your time.

if you have compressed air that can help force to the oil into the threads.

if you have an oxy acetylene torch, heat the nut with a small tip to a dull red, that should make it able to break loose.
oops, did not notice you already got it off, that said, I have removed a number of really bad ones from auto exhaust manifolds by heating.

Aero kroil is killer stuff but have never seen it sold publicly. Just in industrial. Have few cans in my tool box. That nut doesn't look that bad. Are you using a 12pt or 6pt socket? If you get the socket on it and you feel like its coming off as you are loosening then your not positioned right. Use a shallow and not a deep well also. Seeing now that an exhaust flange nut , pull the heat shield first!
