Default 06 street bob, trouble starting, looking for help

Hi everyone, new to posting on here but I've read the forums a few times and they've been helpful, hoping for the same result so here goes.

I have an 06 street bob, 35,000 km on it. I've had it almost three years.

Suddenly, it starts acting up on me. It's always been pretty easy to start, now it is just turning over and not firing up. Like it's not turning fast enough or bad gas was my original guess... Killed the battery yesterday trying to start it. Diluted what little gas was in it with new premium (only gas I ever use, no ethanol), charged the battery and it ran fine.

Then today, I get it running, ride for about 30km with my son and we stop to have a coffee, when I try to start it back up. Same thing. Only this time I get it running and as I'm making the turn to head home the bike completely dies on me, no lights, indicators, nothing.

Shut the key off and try again and just get it started. My son jumped on and we got it home. It died trying to put it on my lift and hasn't started since.

It tested my battery 12.6v, my fob battery 3.3v, tried pulling the fuse on my stereo, same thing.

Recently serviced by me, engine oil, spark plugs, primary oil....

any thoughts are appreciated.

35,000 km is 21,748 miles , 30 km is 18.6 miles .

good luck Jason

Thanks Greg for the info, I'm Canadian so I automatically measure distance in km and time in how long it takes me to drink a Tim hortons coffee..... Eh.

That being said, I did find a thread on here that indicated a fuel line problem. A quick check through the fill cap when the bike is priming on start and there's gas spraying inside the tank.... So I've got a fuel line leaking.

This also explains from my post why when I diluted the gas in my tank yesterday by adding a bit more, my bike seemed to run fine. Once I burned the tank down to where it was yesterday..... Same problem.

Could this also explain a slight loss in power over time? Seems like the bike doesn't rev up as high as it used to...... Hope so.

Now to fix it. Oh well, better to go through this now than a few months time when I'm half way to Sturgis!

The battery voltage should be greater than 12.6 volts. More like 13.5 volts. Go by the manual and check your stator output voltage. Sounds like you are running off the battery. With yours being an 06, my vote is on a bad stator. Go aftermarket with the parts, just don't waste money on the crap from China. You can find useful videos on You Tube to help you out.

Battery voltage of about 12.6 is normal when the engine isn't running.
