Default Dyna Road Trip

Planning a trip from Ohio to California. Looking at like 800 miles a day. Want to get people's opinion about doing it on a dyna. Road to Ft Worth, TX but only did 650 max one day and it was only two days on a bike before a couple days off. Considering stepping up to a road glide for the trip but having a hard time getting rid of my street bob.

Thoughts?

You can do it. I did 775 the first day one time on my 11 SB. That was with the factory seat and a back pack on my back. There is little things you can do to make it better on you of course. Motrin, a nice seat and/or pad, windshield (even though I hate them), bags that go on the bike, etc.
I don't know what kind of a touring set up you got for your SB but I would definitely strap a bag to your sissy bar to use as a back rest for yourself.
Of course if you just really want a new bagger then.....

Riding solo or 2 up?

I'd recommend a quick-detach windshield if you don't already have one.

I've done 700 in a day on my WG and felt fine after. It's all about the route you choose and how often you stop (interstate riding wears me out faster). Having a good touring seat helps too.

I forgot to ask what he just did. You can also hop on over to the Road Trip section and find some tips on touring. If you have some creature comforts, take breaks, and keep hydrated there won't be a huge amount of difference between yours and a bagger.

I have done many of a road trips with long days like the ones you have planned on my street bob. I can tell you this the three best investments you can have on a Dyna, good seat, a few places to move your feet and some sort of wind protection. All of these have allowed me to stretch out, keep the back pain away and extend the rides. There is a big difference at the end of a long day at high speed when the wind is pushing on your chest and when its being pushed around you. No need to get a road glide just to do the trip, just set your bike up for the trip, a $1000 in parts is cheaper then a $25k bike that you'll have to break in before the trip.

Sorry I can't contribute useful info for you, but I'm very interested myself. Going to take my first big road trip the last week in June.

Rocking the 09 fxdl, 1500 miles in 4 days with my pops on an ultra. Riding around Michigan and Ontario...a baby ride compared to your adventure.

Do you have to get in 800 miles a day? Definitely do-able, but probably would be much more enjoyable if you didnt have to stick to a scripted mileage.

Damn Jonesee, those are some marathon rides. Tell us more about your set up. Where you on mids or forwards? What kind of handlebars and seat? Impressive stuff for sure. Not much time for chit chat with those times.

Easy to do on a Dyna, almost any bike for that matter. Stay HYDRATED, Be alert. I have made many journeys like that but now it is more about the ride and not the destination. I have learned to slow the pace and enjoy the scenery more.
