noisey normal?
guys, im in the process of breaking in my 07 street bob. im wondering what i should expect in terms of engine and tranny noise. this thing sounds loud to me. when i move my let leg out, away from the horn, i hear what sounds like chain noise. i thought primary but the fluid level is fine and supposedly the chain tension is self adjusting. in general i find the engine pretty loud, not sure how to describe it, kind of high pitched, not a whine, but maybe clicky? don't know if its bad or what. definately louder than my evo. also the tranny clicks loud when changing gears. when shifting under a littl ebit more aggressive acceleration (im still keeping it at like 1/4 or 1/3 throttle) it actually clicks twice, once going into gear, and again when i drop my toe off the shifter. anything sound alarming to you? unfortunately i don't know anyone with a twin cam to help me compare it.. not to mention its snowing again so riding is out anyway.
I don't know if it quiets down as you break it in or if you just get used to it but it gets better...My bobber was real loud when I picked it up 4K miles later (and some Vance and Hines pipes) and she just purrs...Congrats on your new bike and keep the rubber side down...Later
Try running Belray or Revtec 85/140 in your tranny, it quiets things down allot. My primary is louder than I'd like it as well. I can hear the chain. As I've said before in another post, I'm not real crazy about the self adjusting chain tensioner. I think it may over tighten the chain, which causes the premature wearing of the inner primary bearing.
dude-
thats is perfectly normal. had my '07 bob for about two weeks and have been breakin it in and have 250 miles on 'er. you can hear like a little clicking noise on the left side like your horn is rattling. that motor is not mounted the same as others(rubber)so your going to get more vibration. dont worry man....

2007 Street Bob, No unusual noise except for my front forks when I hit a bump. Had the shop check that and they adjusted the "fallout". Apparently re-torqued and re-aligned the forks. No other problems. Not as smooth as a VTX 1800 but it feels so much better. I test rode a Triumph Rocket III and it really made some odd noises. The old FXRs may have felt smoother but to me not as elemental.
