Why Lower the Rear?
For me ... its all about looks ...
One question though ... With the lowered rear, and stock front ... will the bars seem a little higher to me? ... Since my *** will be lower but the front will be the same? ... That would be fine if they seem a little higher ... i wouldn't mind a little more heighth ...
Looks only, I think. My ride got much stiffer. I got 11" chrome covered Proressive 412s and I feel every bump on the road. Also, it doesn't help to have a Corbin Hollywood solo seat. It's like sitting on a rock.

5'9"!? You're huge! I'm 5'4" and I'm sure there areshort riders who don't mind holding up a 650 lb bike on one footbut I ain't one of 'em!
Even before I had the seat lowered for comfort due to how the center of gravity was on the twin cam with 6 speed compared to my Evo.
I did mine for looks. Bike handles a little tighter on corners. You have to watch it til you get used to it, easy to over steer. You think nothing is happening then Bam! it all comes at once. But bike definitely looks better. I do miss being able to lean it right over. Now Iscrape my pipe. Oh well. Oh better quality shock Pro412's than the stock shocks.
just to clarify for everyone reading this that a lower stance does not = better handling.
The Best of Harley-Davidson for Lifelong Riders
There are other differences, in the interest of full disclosure, but the bikes are very similar.
I've got an 07 Bob, bone stock. She's got an 05 Lowrider, that I believe has been lowered from stock. (I haven't measured to be sure, but I'd estimate there's a good three inchesmore road clearance on the Bob -that Lowrider is practically sitting on the ground.)Being an 05, she has a bit smaller engine (andshe's also got the lower bars), but I do not believe just the weight makes asbig adifference as the one that exists.
And believe me when I tell you there is a significant difference. With that low center of gravity, at a stop, you can sit down on that Lowrider and it practically pops upright on it's own. After it's up, it takes zero effort to keep it vertical. She can barely drag my Bob upright, and I noticemyself the Bobfeels more inclined to tipwhen holding it up. It doesn't have the same tendency to just sit upright on its own, itrequires me to use anactual effort (though not a big effort)to keep it balanced, while her Lowrider does not. The difference is also very noticable on the road. Her bike corners like it's on rails, compared to mine. And maybemy Bob is theoretically capable of out-leaning her Lowrider, but theLowrider leans much more easily and more smoothly.
Now Idon'tmind the difference much, I'm a laid back rider and really don't care how slow I go in the turns. I wouldn't trade my bike for hers, because the Bob just fits me better (with those low handlebars she has, I see nothing but shoulder when riding it). And her bike does ride like an oxcart, there's not much give left in that suspension. But even so, I'm pretty convinced that a lowerstancedoes improve handling - convinced enough that I might consider dropping mine an inch to get a little of that handling for myself.
