may dont sweat it man. So whats the issue with your bike? same symptoms as the OP of this thread?
alright. Ill put everything so I dont miss anything.
I bought my bike 2 years ago with 11k miles. Has almost 13k now. Its a 2010 dyna street bob. I have some mods but Im not concerned about those at all. Bought the bike with them. I rode it completely perfect until a couple months ago. It started backfiring and killing the engine altogether. It was my battery. It blew up. Took me another battery to understand I had to replace my voltage regulator. So me being cheap and all, I bought one off Amazon. Worked great! Havent had a battery blow since lol. Anyway it was fine for a couple weeks and now my problems are backfiring, speedometer goes crazy. All the way up and back to 0 then back to real speed. All power to bike would cut off, very high idle with clutch in and out. When I pulled clutch in it would sometimes rev really high by itself. Scared the crap out of me the first time. After doing a lot of research and personal dirt bike experience I tried cleaning the map sensor. (Didnt replace it so that could potentially be it) I feel like it had problems less often. Did some more research and got a new temp sensor. Feel like that helped a little bit too. As of now it has only stalled the engine but fires up by itself again and a backfire one time. I can have it running in neutral but it will be fine. I have to ride it for the issues to kick in. It can be when I just start it (cold) but usually happens when the Im riding for about 20 minutes. The bike has always been able to start up after it dies. When its not backfiring or being a pain the *** it runs like a dream. Maybe a little performance has gone down but I cant tell. Might just be in my own head. I cleaned my air filter as well. I was thinking a fuel filter might be clogged or like some others said, ignition module or maybe even ignition coil. Really appreciate yalls help! I grew up with my mom and taught myself everything I know about vehicles and engines. Ive came far! This is the first big problem I just cant wrap my head around. Im a marine and dont get paid much so dont tell me take it to a shop lmao no way I can afford that. Thanks brothers and its EFI by the way
Generally when you have an issue like this it is due to a bad connection or weak fuel pressure. Do you have any engine codes. One thing Dynas are notorious for is loose battery connections. As you mention low miles and 11 years old, the cause could be in the fuel system but the speedo jumping sounds more electrical.
