Default Stock exhaust question??

I recently heard a stock V-Rod at the local stealership and it was super quiet, and it got me thinking that I love the fact that my bike has a little rumble to it, thena couple of buddies of mine (softail owners, 03 standard and 02 standard) were commenting today at how "loud" my exhuast was. They mentioned theirsbikes, in stock form, werepretty much whisper quiet whenthey got them. That got me thinking, is something different about mybike? I boughtan 07 street bob (like everyone else) as ademo bike that had about 65 miles on it from the local dealer, and I am not sure ifI have stock pipes or possibly someslip-ons? is there anyway to check? if the dealer modded it (which I don't mind, I love it) would the pipes/slippons be embossed? they seem normal, no sticker/stampson pipes.

Do you other street bob owners notice that stock your bike has a little growl to it, is that just how it is with the 9 cu in engines? Just curious.

The stock sound is more like a purr than a growl, even with a 96. Get out on the highway and you won't even hesr them. That's cool in some ways, but then neither can the clueless farding cagers.

Go ahead and get you some noise makers. The stock ones are a little on the quiet side out on the road. Have the VH slipons and it's a world of difference.

If your pipes do not have the warning stamped in saying something on the order of, "If you mess with this exhaust system in any way, you could ruin your bike and get lots of tickets", you can be sure they are not stock.

I'm one of those weirdos who's happy with the stock pipes.

It's not your imagination, Theeboy... when I first read about the new 96's in Cycle World last fall, the magazine said that the H-D engineers had made them as loud as the Feds would allow: right up to the absolute limit.

I've heard stock pipes on '06' (and earlier)88's, and they are whisper quiet compared to the '07 96's.

I figure, they are loud enough for me when I ride alone... I can hear them just fine. When I'm with a group, I enjoy listening to everybody else's.

Besides... I don't buy the "loud pipes save lives" thing. Those people in their Lexuses and Infinitis with their Mark Levinson stereos cranked up can't even hear a fire truck siren... much less a Harley, loud pipes or not.

I stay alive with alertness, situational awareness, and reflexes. It's worked for the last 32 years on two wheels...

I've still got the stock pipes on my 07 Dyna, and after they broke in they actually sounded deep enough that I'm not obsessed with replacing them anymore. People mention to methat they indeed sound better than previous stock pipes, and personally, they'll hold me over till I get the funds to replace them.

I do enjoy the stock sound/performance, but when I hear my buddies bikes whalin' and rumbling, it makes me want some pipes too. Besides I want to change the stock look a little. I am considering vh short shots, as well as bassani pro pipes, but the pro pipes keep getting shi++y reviews/customer service.

Also I do agree that cagers probabl can't hear us over their radios and what not, and awareness is key to survival, but if my pipes get atleast 1 person's attention that makes my odds even better.

If stock, it will have a warning stamped on the outside on the bottom of the muffler, stating something about not exceeding 80 dbls. or something to that nature.
Maybe the dealer replaced them with Screaming Eagles?

There appears to be quite a range in sound level on the 07 factory pipes. With 1100 miles on it, my 07 Low rider has a little rumble to it although I would like a little more. My brother-in-law has an 07 Ultra Classic and it has a good amount of rumble and even some crack to it (about 900 miles) and a friend of ours has an 07 Classic with about 1300 miles and it is wisper quite.
