Default Fork oil refill for 2014 Fat bob

So, I will be swapping out my front brake rotors. Since I have the front wheel off I was thinking of replacing the fork oil for the heavier 20w?, which everyone say is a lot better. Also I do get a little front end chatter under braking. My other thought is to replace the fork springs to Progressives?. I only have 5k mi. on bike but I am curious if the Progressives would be worth it being the stock springs are pretty much brand new. Any input would be appreciated regarding oil weight or springs.

I think 20W would be way too thick. Amsoil 10W is recommended for the FB forks. Progressive springs are great but expensive. I'd recommend installing Ricor intiminators and going with Amsoil 10W fork oil and see how you like it. Just the ricors with stock springs make a huge difference and are a lot cheaper than new springs. You can always add progressives later, but the valving is what is crucial to front end handling.

not familiar with the ricors for front fork springs, but the progressives are only $80-100. im curious if just upgrading the oil wt would be a good improvement.

With 5000 miles I doubt changing out the fluid is going too make much difference unless your using 20wt then its going to be harsh. I had excessive front end dive and a clunk when hitting bumpsand installed some progressive (standard length) springs with HD's type E fork oil and it really helped. If you want a really good setup keep your oem springs and install some Ricor intiminators and use the Amsoil shock therapy (10wt) like red dragon mentioned

I wouldn't go with 20w, it will be too heavy. You don't say what brand though, so just be aware that all weights are not equal among fork oils.

I would go with amsoil #10 and re-do your pre-load.

Also, the chatter you hear is your brakes. If you hear a clunk then it could be your forks/tank.

I went with Progressive springs up front and didn't change the weight of oil. Made a huge difference. Stupid easy install and you can find them pretty inexpensive online. Check Amazon and the like. I did get the Heavy Duty ones cause I'm a big boy.

I did the HD progressive drop in springs with 15wt maxima over the winter and am super happy with the results. I'm a bigger guy at 265lbs. The ride is very firm but I wouldn't say is harsh unless the road is super rough.
