Hard starting when hot outside
I have a 2014 Fat Bob with the 103. It is stock aside from a pair of slipons.
Today is really the hottest day we've had since i got the bike. The bike has about 2800 miles on it now. i keep up on the maintenance.
I rode to work this morning and it was about 75* bike performed normally.
I went to go to lunch at 11:45 and went through the same process i ALWAYS do when i start it. That's Turn ignition on, flip the switch to run, put my helmet on, then start the bike (this gives the fuel pump time to prime)
I started the bike and it was idling very rough and low. I didnt look at the tach but could tell it was way low.
Since i had already rolled the bike out of the parking spot. I took off and got out of the way of trafic. Shut the engine run switch off and it wouldnt die. I even went as far as turning the ignition switch to the off position. And it still wouldnt shut off. It finally stalled.
So thinking maybe i didnt let the pump prime long enough, made sure to listen to it run til it shut off. It did and i started it.
AGAIN the idle was super low and choppy
rode to jack in the box to get something to eat
Spent about 50 minutes inside went out and went to start the bike. This time i made sure i gave the bike time to prime and everything. It would start but not idle without me giving it some throttle. finally it got to where it would idle, and it idled fine.
this seems to be directly related to the temperature outside. Almost like a heat soak condition. the reason i say this, is i noticed some behavior similar to this in the past. And thinking about it, that day was also a hot day. Just not 100 like today.
Any ideas? My dealer is closed today. The bike is full of fresh 91 octane that i pumped out of my boat yesterday. Long story, but i have 20 gallons of fuel in the boat that i put in it Friday that i wont be using for awhile.
So its not fuel?
It's a twin cylinder bike not a V-8 Cadillac,, give yourself some time to learn
p.s. Why are you turning the "run switch" off? Is your ignition key broken?
The "run switch" is there at the thumb because it's usually where your hand hit's during an emergency (hope you never learn that),, it's not there to shut off your bike,, it's a kill switch. Use your ignition and key to shut the bike off.

I feel some clarification is needed.
The engine is not hot. The ambient temperature is hot when this happens. In otherwords the bike sits in the parking lot in direct sunlight and then this starts happening. Almost like a coil breaking down when its hot.
Water in the fuel is highly unlikely, since the tanks were bone dry before fuel went into them (i just built the boat) and the engine threw a rod in the first pass. The tanks were bought brand new about 6 months ago and were glassed into the boat about 3 weeks ago. This was the first fill up, aside from a gallon or so of fuel i put in to clean the tanks out.
Boat literally was in the water about 15 mintues. And as the water got pumped out it goes through a fuel/water seperator.
Ive always used the run switch just from habbit from dirtbikes. Ill start using the ignition switch, however i doubt this is related
