On my 2014 FXDL I used Etch Primer on the chrome finish covers then Plastikote Matt Black Enamel and Plastikote Industrial Spray Clear Acrylic as a top coat. The finish is not too dissimilar to Black Denim and is harder wearing with the top coat. Mine has covered 2000 miles in mixed weather since painting and still looks good. I recommend the top coat as it protects against minor scuffs and also paint discoloration in event of a fuel spill (yes I managed to find a nozzle where the cut out wasn't working).
Take your time, do light coats to build up and allow proper drying time.

Why the hell would you spend the time and use a paint that "can hardly tell the difference" when HD will sell you a paint thats a direct ****ing match for an extra few bucks?
I'm this example, he did the derby, upper chain guard, and elec. cover. Where are you finding these three items in wrinkle black for an "extra few bucks" more than a $7 can of paint? Even thru eBay, if you can even find them, that would be at least $100 worth of parts. $93 is NOT a "few bucks" (unless you're a RUB, I suppose).
Some people relish the DIY spirit and/or recognize the value of repurposing, recondishioning, or just plain being cheap.
I'm all three. I have a perfectly good chrome derby that's out of style and not my taste. I couldn't sell it for $7, but I can make it (and a bunch of other stuff, too) look better for that same $7.

Maybe I wasnt clear, I was talking about the paint, brother.
I'm a big believer in DIY, you can see some of my work a few posts up, but HD sells a direct match for around $15usd a can. Why not use that instead of one that doesn't quite match?
I'd rather spend the extra $7 a can and do it right.
