wife has a 2004 low rider,primary started leaking a week ago.bike has 2300 miles on it.anyone had this problem so far with this year? also started running bad lastime she fired it up.seems like it is popping at idel and when riding it snorts sometimes.when you turn it off there is a strange sound in the pipes and a strong odor of raw gas.any help would be appricated.

I ahve a '04FXD and after changing the primary oil it was leaking. I found that the drain plug has an o'ring that needed changing. That stopped the problem. As for as the idling problem, is the gas new or was it in the tank for a while, like more than a month or longer. I wish I could be more helpful.

Bad idle could be as simple as a dirty carb...when was the last service done and has the carb had a jet kit? it sounds like either the choke is stuck open or the jetting is way to rich...But if the bike has been sitting awhile it could be as simple as bad gas...I'd start with a new tank of gas and cleaning the carb...

thanks for the info,the gas was from last year but i added STA-BIL before she parked it.rode it over the winter a few time it ran good.gonna drain the tank out tonight and put fresh gas in.. put a set of slip ons on it in dec but never got the stage 1 done yet.she hasnt riden it much since i put the mufflers on it. the oil lead seems to be coming from the back of the primary case?? someone told me it might be the trans seal? shes going to take it to a guy tomorrow to have it checked out.

well to the shop it went lastnight.guy said it was the trans seal leaking.the popping and gas smell is the needle is messed up.told him that the bike just went out of warrenty in dec and had 2300 miles on it.told him harley said the warrenty is out so oh well.he just laughed and said thats harley for ya.once the warrenty time is out they are done with you .so he is doing the job for a decent price because the bike is so new.vary good guy and knows his stuff.nice shop to vary clean and orginized.
