Default Windshield Users or not

I love the look of my Wide Glide without the windshield, and despise looking thru/over the windshield, but every time I ride without it when I get home I put it back on.

The wind pressure doesn't bother me but the wind noise is just too much. I tried a 3/4 helmet but don't like not being able to hear. The same for ear plugs with my 1/2 helmet.

So, the 1/2 helmet with windshield is my best option. I can hear the motor and other sounds around me fine.

I guess I have 2 options: get used to the noise or like the look of the windshield. Curious if others have the same problem.

I'm one of the ear plugs at all times riders... I like my hearing No matter the helmet I'm wearing or how short the ride, plugs are in. You do get used to wearing ear plugs and you'll find you can't ride without them if you were to wear them for a time. The damage from wind noise even behind a windscreen is dramatic the longer you ride and I've found I can hear the bike better with plugs in. I had custom plugs done up and use them for both shooting and motorcycling.

My '13 Wide Glide had an HD windscreen on it when I bought it, the quick disconnect setup. I asked the dealer to take it off but no, it's part of the deal; I ended up giving it away to get it out of my garage, I can't stand windscreens on HD's.

You do have a 3rd option: try riding without the windscreen but start using ear plugs. You will adapt to them if you give it a chance and your hearing will still be with you when you get older

OK, enough being your mom...

x2 on the plugs. I started wearing them when I had straight pipes on the sporty. I get by with a FF helmet now.

Local, (less than 200 miles) the windshield is off.
Trips over 200 miles, the windshield is always on.

I always wear a full face modular helmet.
I wear ear plugs, even locally if I remember.
Always wear ear plugs on trips.

I don't like the looks of the windshield, but I too always put it back on. I don't care about the wind so much (even with a skull cap helmet) it's the bugs. I ride around a lot of farm/country area and some of those bugs are BIG and painful when they hit you in the face.

I don't like the look of a windshield but I'll ride in the winter as much as I can with heated gear. The windshield is invaluable then for keeping the wind off your chest. I have a Schuberth C3Pro which is supposed to be one of the quietest helmets. There is still plenty of noise with or without a shield but not nearly as much as other helmets. Half and 3/4 helmets won't help at so I am not sure how you can't hear with a 3/4 on.

I had custom earplugs made by an audiologist. Cost me about $180. I have yet to wear them on the bike. I really should try them. They have ports so you are supposedly able to hear voices. You should try plugs. I was wearing disposables for a while and you can still hear what you need. It is an adjustment though.

Thanks for the info. I will get some good ear plugs and see how that works. Now that I think about noise cancelling, it does enhance other sounds

If I didn't have wind noise and feel the rush, I would not think I was riding a motorcycle.

My hearing is shot from years of working on jet engines so hearing is not an issue...I put in my bluetooth earbuds and crank up the rock and roll.

I use a windshield when it is cold, when I am pretty sure that I am going to run into rain, and long road rides on the freeways.

I wear a skid-lid or no helmet, over-the-glasses goggles, and sometimes a bandana or neck sock over my face on rides to keep the bugs and dust out. I usually wear a ski balaclava in the winter.

I have the standard 18" high above the light detachable from HD. No buffeting and very comfortable. I just don't like the adjustment. It is as low as it can go and i still feel like I am looking thru it. I am not the tallest person either!
