I recently picked up a 2003 Low Rider. It has a stage one with a high flow air cleaner, rej-jetted carb and Cycle Shack pipes. The pipes are too loud. If I reinstall the stock pipes, will the bike run too rich? Will there be too much airflow?
Wear earplugs or look into a different slip on rather than running stock mufflers again. Cycle shacks are a cheaper muffler. Go better quality and some more baffle options will be out there.
I was just wondering how back pressure from stock pipes would affect the bike. If it doesn't run right, I'll re-jet.
I found a take-off exhaust on Craigslist for only $60. It was removed from a new bike with only 11 miles. It's a complete system, including headers, mufflers, heat shields, support bracket, clamps and hardware.
My '03 FXDL is a one-owner bike with 16k miles. It looks showroom new without a single blemish. Only problem is the previous owner never serviced it except for two motor oil (dino) changes. That's it. The guy looked at me funny when I asked if he did any other scheduled maintenance.
The bike needs tires, a complete tune-up, steering head greased and torqued, brake fluid flush, and fresh oil in 3 holes. I also want to replace the shocks with a pair of Progressive. These are higher priorities than slip-ons. I'll find some pipes at a Walneck's swap meet over the winter.
