Default Rain Sock

What's the purpose of the rain sock that comes with a SE air cleaner? I've been caught in the rain a couple of times and forgot to put it on and noticed no change in how the bike ran. I lightly sprayed the hose at it and water goes right thru it so what exactly is it supposed to do?

It is supposed to be used in heavy rain to keep the bike from sucking water into the engine. Mine has a sock as well and i have yet to use it, I guess if you were doing an all day ride in the rain it might be good to use.

Stop water from entering the EFI short answer. As you might know that isn't good. So keep it with you and use it if you get into wet weather. I would put it on when you wash the bike just to prevent running water into the motor when you start it up right away. Just a preventive thing for the most part!

In addition to helping keep water out of the throttle body, it keeps the oil in the filter from being washed away. You do oil your filter, right?

My SE filter specifically said not to oil, it's a replaceable filter cartridge. I know that the stated purpose of the sock is to keep water out but water goes right thru it like its not even there.

Didn't think about using it during the ritual washing of the scoot. Great tip.

The design of the rain sock is very simple.

It's to get you (consumer) to spent $20. Of added sales. Lol! Appears to be working, oh, not the sock.

It's all good!

In a filter directly exposed to rain, water will tend to wash much of the trapped dirt from the filter into the engine. Kinda negates the value of having a filter in the first place.

A rain cover may reduce this somewhat.

I keep mine in my battery bag if needed.

It works perfectly at keeping my K&N from getting water-logged. It's amazing the little things people will get upset about buying that actually serve a purpose, and that same person will spend hundreds on something entirely cosmetic.
