Default Horn Relocation DIY attempt

Hey all.

Just thought I'd show a couple pics of my horn relocation on my FXDF.

I read a lot about it, but never saw a walk through or any pics of how people set up their horns or routed wires. I was poking around today and did mine, thought I'd share what I found.

First off, get rid of that cowbell, and grind off the ugly part of the motor mount, but just enough to not cut the spark plug wire holder! I used a dremel cause the area was pretty tight.
Hit it with some flat black, done.

Now I took the originally mounting bracket for the horn and mounted it in an existing hole in the down tubes of the frame with a stainless steel bolt. Wow that was easy...

Next up, lengthen horn wires to reach and route up inside the gas tank so they don't get too hot on the engine.

and that was it!

Very easy DIY to try for anyone wondering, just take your time when you are messing with the grinder close to the tank and gas lines!!

Overall cost of the project was a couple bucks if you already have tools. I had to buy some wire, and solder, that's it that's all!

I mounted mine on the downtubes also when I did my coil relocation on my Deluxe. The problem was, if I hit a bigger bump it would hit my fender. May want to pay attention to that. I now have a tiny dent in the back of my front fender. At first I didn't think it was close enough to hit. I mounted my GoPro to check clearance while riding and hitting bumps. Sure enough it was hitting. I have since removed my horn.

I'll definitely check that out. Thanks for the tip. I definitely need to keep my horn until I do my final road test, then it might go in the trash.

I think they look better with out the horn hanging off the stock position too.
I put mine behind the rear cylinder, above the starter.

Unless I was building a custom show bike, I could not see removing the cowbell unless it is to replace it with something that looks similar...with all the Harley V-Twin lookalikes out there, it is one of those things that just makes a Harley look like a Harley and not a metric clone...

Cowbell horn is one of those little signature items that has been on HD's for decades, not just years...anyhow; when I had this new switch installed on Wife's FXDL, put a cheapo horn up front, too...works.

If seeing the cowbell is the only way you can tell the difference between a Harley and a metric clone, perhaps you need to study harder.

I put my horn behind the rear cylinder, above the starter. You can't even tell it's there. Then I hung a skull where the horn used to be.

this only makes sense if you did not actually read what I posted or just totally suck at reading comprehension...
